About Trekstasy

Trekstasy is a privacy-first trip planner and gear organizer built for hikers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts. It helps you organize trips, manage gear, build packing lists, and estimate calorie needs — without ads, third-party tracking, or selling your data to anyone.

It's developed and run by Ørneklo — product designers making outdoor gear and apps for hiking, camping, and fishing. Trekstasy began as a sidequest: a way to help share the gear we're developing over the coming years while giving the outdoor community a genuinely useful planning tool.

🔒 Privacy & Your Data

Your privacy matters. Your body metrics (gender, age, weight, height, fitness level) used by the calorie calculator are stored only in your own browser — they're never sent to us or to any third party.

The trips, gear, packing lists, and packs you create are stored securely on our EU servers so they're there when you log back in. They're only visible to you, unless you choose to share something. We don't sell, rent, or analyse your data, and we don't run advertising or analytics trackers.

You can export or delete your data at any time from your Settings page. For the full picture — what we store, where it lives, how long we keep it, and your rights under GDPR — see our Privacy Notice.

How Calculations Work

The calorie calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) based on gender, age, weight, and height. This is a widely used formula in nutrition science for estimating resting energy expenditure.

Trail burn estimates factor in trip duration, distance, elevation gain, terrain difficulty, altitude, temperature extremes, and pack weight. These are combined using activity multipliers derived from exercise physiology research to produce daily and total calorie estimates.

The deficit/surplus calculation compares your estimated total burn against the calorie content of packed food items to give you a practical overview of whether you're carrying enough nutrition.

The readiness ring shown on each trip is a visual summary of these same checks — food, water, fuel, weight, volume, sleep system and reminders rolled into a single score. It reads your packed gear alone, so it works without any personal data; adding your body profile simply sharpens the food, water and weight parts. Either way, your body metrics stay in your browser and are never sent to us.

📚 The Gear Catalog

Trekstasy comes with a built-in catalog of 1,500+ real outdoor products — packs, tents, sleeping bags, stoves, clothing and more — each with real-world weights and dimensions, so you can build accurate packing lists without weighing everything yourself. Need something that isn't listed? Add your own custom items anytime.

These products aren't ours. Other brands make and sell them; we simply list them as a planning reference. We don't sell any of them and earn nothing from showing them — the brand names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.

Make outdoor gear? We'll add your products to the catalog free of charge, or remove them on request — just email contact@trekstasy.com. Every catalog item carries a small copyable ID tag, so it's easy to point us at exactly the right one.

🏔️ Ørneklo Gear

Trekstasy will always be free of third-party advertising, and we never sell your data. As Ørneklo grows, you may start to see our own outdoor gear featured inside the app — strictly camping, hiking, wildlife, fishing, and hunting equipment that fits what you're already planning.

These are Ørneklo's own products (our first ones are still in development), shown by us — not paid placements from outside advertisers, and they never involve sharing your data with anyone. You'll only see these if you opt in: the "Product News from Ørneklo" switch in Settings is off by default and is the single control for both in-app product suggestions and our marketing emails. Leave it off and you'll never see them.

⚠️ Important — Plan Responsibly

Trekstasy is a planning aid, provided "as is". It is not medical or nutritional advice. The calorie figures are estimates from general formulas and are no substitute for professional guidance — individual needs vary a lot.

You are responsible for your own trip decisions — food, water, equipment, route, and safety. Always carry adequate supplies regardless of what the calculator says, and consult a qualified professional before making nutrition decisions for strenuous activity.
