Mylla — The northern edge of Nordmarka
Beautiful Mylla
At the far northern end of Nordmarka, a nature reserve spanning from the Oslo city limits to Jevnaker in the north, a beautiful, tranquil lake sits right in the middle of ancient cabins and newer recreational palaces. During winter, this is a much-loved skiing trailhead. In the summer, cyclists and hikers alike can opt to travel all the way to Oslo on established roads, or spend days camping along old hidden paths.
Fishing is possible
There are perch and some smaller trout. A long time ago, larger trout were caught, and rumor has it there are still some lurking in the depths. We had some trouble buying fishing licenses. No fewer than two signs directed us to send SMS messages to pay for a day of fishing — one from the Lunner side and one from the Jevnaker side — but both ended with "Code not recognized". There might be so few people fishing that they ditched the service to save money. From Mylla, a canoe or packraft would be a perfect companion down through Nordmarka, with its many trout, pike and perch lakes and rivers — all with functioning fishing licenses available from OFA (Oslomarkas Fiskeadministrasjon). Short test trip
My trip here in July 2026 was of the shorter kind, just to test the fishing now that the lake is partially drained and new land is reachable. There are some very promising spots now, and I did get one solid bite from what I suspect was a perch. I'll have to return for an overnighter that will allow evening and morning fishing. I'm a little concerned that the mayfly (Ephemera vulgata) eggs from last year may have died off because of the drainage of the dam. Hopefully they will recover and hatch for a better season next year.
