Flåmsbana

Flåmsbana is a vintage, half-museum-quality train running an old route from Myrdal to Flåm. It is a lovely little treasure of a railroad museum on tracks, with surprises along the way and multilingual videos showing in the authentic train carriages. The ride offers breathtaking scenery and a very special stop at a waterfall, where you absolutely should get off and stretch your legs when given the opportunity.

How to get there

Many trains go to Myrdal station. You will pass it if you travel from Oslo to Bergen, and you can reach it from both cities. From Bergen, the F4 train toward Oslo takes around two hours. From Oslo, the F4 toward Bergen takes around five hours to Myrdal. You can also take the Flåmsbana as a round-trip voyage from Flåm to Myrdal and back, with each leg taking around an hour. Many cruise tourists choose this option, as larger ships arrive in Flåm daily during the high season. It's even possible to use the Flåmsbana as a first step toward both Oslo and Bergen, if you use Flåm as a connection point on another journey altogether.
